Mikoto Uchiha Oneshot: He's A Survivor
Mikoto didn't know what to think when she couldn't see or feel her newborn baby breathing. It wasn't that long before one of the nurses took the baby out of her arms and began trying everything they could to get the newborn breathing again. Mikoto felt tears sting her eyes as she saw nurses and the doctor all huddled over the small figure of her newborn daughter. Fugaku rushed over to his wife's side and gently placed a hand on her shoulder before pulling her into a light embrace.
They didn't know what was wrong; they didn't know why their daughter had suddenly stopped breathing. During the pregnancy nothing was wrong, not even during birth, so why? Why was their little girl in this position now?
Mikoto closed her eyes as she rested her head on her husband's shoulder and just prayed to Kami that their baby would be saved.

My eyes seek out the sermon
in close proximity,
paint no distance
between headstone and cloud;
elegies topple each other
in their climb to heaven
as light trickles
over the shade,
breathes a new glow over snuffed candles.
I feel the weight in these empty rows,
how a breath couldn't cease to be breath
in the midst of prayer.
